History

The Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology aims at setting directions for and advising the President on mid- and long-term policies regarding national science and technology in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology Act.

Beginning in 1989, when a temporary Presidential Advisory Council on Science & Technology had been founded, it played a pivotal role in supporting the president's national S&T policies. Now, the newly established PACST in 2013 will specialize solely in S&T related issues, although in the previous government, the presidential advisory function of S&T policies were combined with that of educational policies. The Council will use its modified role and its increased influence be able to display the importance of globally competitive S&T capabilities for national competitiveness.
